簡介
友善謹慎的新西蘭領隊羅佈·霍爾（傑森·克拉科 Jason Clarke 飾），他的隊伍名為“冒險顧問”；而斯科特·費雪（傑克·吉倫哈爾 Jake Gyllenhaal 飾）則風趣搞怪，他帶領來自西雅圖的“瘋狂山脈”登山隊。他們相互競爭，又彼此幫助。
兩支隊伍中的勇士們來自各行各業，他們中有郵差、記者、醫生，還有一名來自日本的職業女性。這些登山者看似平凡, 但每個人背後都有一個屬於自己的夢想，激勵著他們前往海拔8000米以上、氧氣稀薄的珠峰。在攀登過程中，他們的身體機能急速下降，在應對體力衰竭、缺氧、雪盲的同時，他們又極為不幸地遭遇瞭一場劇烈的暴風雪，因此命懸一線。
影片改編自1996年的一次真實探險經歷。
