劇情簡介

這部充滿人性省思的政治影片，是改編自威廉李德（William J. Lederer）與尤金波迪克（Eugene Burdick）合著的同名小說，聽說這本小說是促使甘乃迪總統成立海外和平部隊的幕後推手。
喬治．英格魯德執導。美泰合作開發高速公路遭共產黨挑拔停工，並因沙卡人死亡而導致泰國境內暴動。美改派麥奎（馬龍．白蘭度飾）出使泰國，麥與當地革命英雄狄揚（岡田英次飾）為多年好友，狄揚主張沙卡由沙卡人自己作主，並反對首相昆西之獨裁而廣得人心。麥奎不滿狄揚反美並誤以為狄是共產黨的一派，而蘇俄、中共與北沙卡卻極力拉攏無條件支持狄揚。昆西向麥奎告白，狄揚其實並非共黨，隻是受共黨利用將遭刺殺，並願與狄揚合作促成民主，但是狄揚還是遭到不幸，臨終前令手下與昆西合作共求民主。本片在越南情勢動蕩時推出，頗見其現實意義，在表現人物心理活動上的描寫十分細致，主題曲也頗能震動人心。Video
