劇情簡介

越戰後期，美軍上尉威拉德（馬丁?辛 Martin Sheen 飾）奉命沿湄公河而上，搜尋脫離美軍在柬埔寨建立瞭自己的王國的科茨（馬龍?白蘭度 Marlon Brando 飾）上尉，將他帶回或殺死。科茨上尉曾經是美軍在越戰中的英雄，戰功赫赫。然而，忽然有一天，他失蹤瞭。隨後，情報指出他在柬埔紮建立瞭自己的王國，自己的軍隊，專門反對美軍。
威拉德與幾名士兵一路沿河而上，途中他們目睹瞭種種暴行、殺戮，目睹瞭無論美軍士兵還是當地人在長期的戰爭中精神扭曲，做出的種種非正常的行為，威拉德感到瞭極大的震撼。
威拉德最後在柬埔寨科茨的王國中被當地人捉住，見到瞭科茨。然而，科茨竟欲求一死，叫威拉德將這裡炸為平地……
